*Candidates with Master’s degree in Geography (specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics/ Statistics are also eligible to appear for the NET exam in ‘Population Studies’ subject.
**Candidates with Master’s degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear for the NET exam in ‘Women Studies’ subject.

    ABOUT UGC NET EXAM ...................

    The National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as UGC NET or NTA-UGC-NET, is the test for determining the eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award in Indian universities and colleges. UGC NET is considered as one of the toughest exams in India, with success ratio of merely 6%. Previously, the passing ratio was around 3% - 4%. Assistant Professors in private colleges may or may not be NET qualified but NET qualification is mandatory for universities & government colleges. The Assistant Professor in universities & government colleges is governed under 7th pay Commission with entry pay of ₹ 57,700 excluding HRA, DA and other allowances making it one of the highest paying government job with 3% of annual increment. According to recent report of National Testing Agency(NTA), total 10,34,872 candidates have applied for December 2019 examination, covering 81 subjects, across 700 centres in 219 cities.
    Until July 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the UGC NET exam but from December 2018 onwards, NTA is conducting the UGC National Eligibility Test. As per the press-release by Indian Government, the exam would be conducted twice a year June month and December month, and it will be conducted in an online mode instead of offline mode.

    A: UGC NET is conducted for total 81 subjects.
    Q: Is UGC NET conducted online?
    A: Yes, ever since NTA has started conducting the exam, UGC NET is conducted in online mode as a computer-based test (CBT) only.
    Q: What is the age limit to apply for UGC NET exam?
    A: To apply for JRF, candidates should not be more than 30 years in age. There is no age limit to apply for the post of Assistant Professor.
    Q: How many papers does one need to clear in order to qualify the UGC NET exam?
    A: One needs to pass both the papers (paper-I and II) in order to qualify the UGC NET exam.   
    Q: Is there any negative marking in UGC NET exam?
    A: No, there is no negative marking in the exam. Candidates are awarded zero marks for an incorrect answer or a question left unanswered. 
    Q: What is the validity of UGC NET eligibility certificate?
    A: There is no prescribed validity for UGC NET eligibility certificate received for the post of Assistant Professor. This means that UGC NET certificate for Assistant Professor is valid for lifetime. However, the JRF award letter is valid for a period of three years starting from the day of issue of the letter.
    Q: Can I choose the post for which I want to take the exam?
    A: Yes, you have the option of selecting the role (Assistant Professor/JRF/both) at the time of filling the application form.
    Q: Is Aadhaar card mandatory to apply for the exam?
    A: No, you can mention any identification number (PAN card, ration card, passport etc) at the time of filling the application form.
    Q: What is the minimum eligibility criteria to apply for UGC NET exam?
    A: You should score at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in your master's degree exams. 
    Q: Who are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam?
    A: Candidates who possess the below-mentioned qualification are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam:
    • PhD degree holders
    • Candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989
    • Candidates who have cleared SET 
    Q: When will I get the admit card?
    A: UGC NET admit card for June 2020 exam was earlier scheduled to be released on May 15. However, currently the date has been postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
